Reflexology and Foot Massage Regulations and Laws in Delaware

Reflexology and Foot Massage Regulations and Laws in Delaware

At Raynor Massage, we value clarity and holistic wellness. If you’re planning to offer reflexology or foot massage in Delaware, it’s essential to understand how state laws apply—particularly since these services fall under the state’s massage regulations.

✅ Is Reflexology Legal in Delaware?

Yes, but reflexology is not exempt from the state’s massage laws. In Delaware, any practice involving hands-on techniques with intent—such as reflexology, acupressure, or similar—is considered massage therapy. Only licensed individuals may legally offer these services for compensation.

Licensing Requirements (Board of Massage & Bodywork)

The state is overseen by the Delaware Board of Massage and Bodywork. To practice any form of massage, including reflexology, you must be one of the following:

1. Licensed Massage Therapist (LMT)

2. Certified Massage Technician (CMT)

  • Also meets the 500-hour training standard

  • Not licensed to treat medical conditions or accept referrals

  • Prohibited from using terms like “therapist” or “therapy” in business name

Reflexology As Massage

Delaware explicitly includes reflexology, acupressure, and similar techniques within the scope of massage therapy. These modalities cannot be practiced for compensation without LMT or CMT credentials.

Facility & Business Regulations

Massage Establishments Must:

  • Have a licensed LMT or CMT as the professional-in-charge

  • Ensure each therapist holds proper state credentials

  • Maintain active business registration and liability insurance (highly recommended)
