Foot and Hand Reflexology Laws and Regulations in Arkansas

At Raynor Massage, we believe that reflexology and foot massage are essential practices in holistic health. However, it’s important for anyone practicing or studying these healing arts to understand the laws and regulations in their specific state. Below is an overview of how reflexology and foot massage are regulated in Arkansas.

Is Reflexology Legal in Arkansas?

Yes, reflexology is legal in Arkansas, but it is not exempt from massage therapy regulation. This means that reflexologists who wish to practice professionally must obtain a massage therapy license from the Arkansas Department of Health – Massage Therapy Section unless they are otherwise exempt by law.

What This Means:

  • If you want to offer reflexology or foot massage services to the public in Arkansas, you must typically hold a state massage therapy license.

  • Performing reflexology without a license may be considered practicing massage therapy without a license, which can carry legal consequences.

Arkansas Massage Therapy Regulations

Arkansas has clearly defined regulations around massage therapy, which include foot massage and reflexology under its scope.

Governing Body:

Licensing Requirements:

  • Completion of an approved massage therapy program (500+ hours)

  • Passing of the MBLEx exam

  • Application and background check

  • Continuing education for license renewal

Note: Reflexology is not recognized as a separate modality with its own licensure, so a massage therapy license is typically required even for practitioners who intend to practice only reflexology.

Practicing Reflexology in Arkansas

If you’re offering reflexology as a part of massage therapy, you’re fully covered under the Arkansas massage therapy license. However, if you want to only practice reflexology, you’ll still need to meet the same licensing standards unless laws change to create an exemption (which they currently do not).
